Want to transform your space? How art can make an impact
When you think of art in a space, what comes to mind is the visual quality.
First, it’s the color, then things like scale, the imagery itself, how it works in the room, the response you have to the subject or the painting itself while looking at it.
But art is more than that; it truly can transform the entire feeling of a space. Sometimes this isn’t even obvious - have a listen to what happened when this large-scale art was installed into a salon. I just love the stories, they are so unexpected and delightful!
When this large-scale abstract painting was chosen by my collector, it was decided to try it out in the space to see if it wanted to remain ‘free’ (that is unstretched - sometimes raw paintings do want to remain this way). So it was hung in the space for a couple of weeks.
What happened as a result is quite fascinating…
This painting is positioned in a way such that you don’t notice it when you walk into the salon. Instead, you begin your visit in front of the mirror, with the painting off to the side in the reflection.
What began to happen over and over is that clients would take a deep breath and remark - “it feels lighter in here, brighter somehow” and begin to look around for the source. Or they would say, “where are the flowers? Aren’t there flowers in here?”
Of the many were reported to me - there was always first an emotional subconscious response to the painting before they even saw it. Once they had a look around, they then realized there was a monumental new piece of art in the space- and immediately wanted to go have a closer look.
I am amazed that this painting had an effect by just being in the room - it is being experienced indirectly and that it’s effect was uplifting and expansive.
We are so used to experience a painting visually and directly. I love this is a new way to experience art - one that adds an even deeper element to the way art works in a room.
How would you like to create an art experience in your space? Have you found a piece of art that makes your senses delight, or intrigues your intellect?
