Finding Ground
Finding ground and dreaming big - a journey in abstract art for the month of May. And Kittens.
New Works: Blue Ground Series
I’ve been asking myself lately what it means to be an artist. My attempt to answer this question has opened up an inquiry that more questions than answers. (Like any good inquiry). I spend a lot of time in nature here on the coast of Maine, filling myself up with the beauty of the natural landscape. Then I begin to wonder, am I in the landscape, or is the landscape in me? Some of both I imagine. Inhale the world around me; with my breath, through my senses. Exhale a blended unified expression. Does this change the landscape? Does it energize the space? Move, draw, photograph, paint, notice. Not necessarily in that order…
I don’t do a lot of sketching on location, preferring to bring it back into my studio and let it infuse and infiltrate my work. What I noticed about this series is my desire to have more structure, more ground. The result is the Blue Ground series.
You can view all the pieces in the Artwork Archive Gallery
